Javad Sadeghi, PhD
Curriculum vitae
I integrate concepts from microbial ecology, evolution, genetics, and genomics in my research to uncover eco-evolutionary trajectories of host-microbiome interactions and understand the ecological processes that drive these reciprocal interactions. I am deeply interested in employing concepts from genetics, ecology, evolution, and advanced multi-omics techniques to gain a comprehensive understanding of host-microbial interactions.

I obtained my undergraduate degree in Biology and my Master's in Medical Microbiology where I worked on antimicrobial resistance mechanisms both in agricultural settings as well as hospitals. In 2017, I moved to Canada and started my PhD with Dr. Daniel Heath (University of Windsor) where I studied the effects of environmental and genetic factors affecting microbial communities.

In 2022, I moved to British Columbia and started as a post-doctoral researcher working with Dr. Sepideh Pakpour (University of British Columbia), here I developed a new sequencing method to investigate the human ocular microbiome.

In 2024, I started at the University of Toronto–Scarborough to work with Dr. Terrence Bell to investigate microbial evolution and adaptations in stressful conditions.

I am an author on 23 publications (first author on 7 and senior author on another), including articles in the top journals in my field (Microbiome, Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Research, Molecular Ecology, Heredity).
